01

Identify the commercial operation

When safe, note carrier names, vehicle identifiers, trailer details, cargo markings, and the people or companies communicating after the crash. The driver may not be the only relevant actor.

02

Recognize time-sensitive information

Electronic logging, dispatch, inspection, maintenance, qualification, cargo, and onboard data may be held by different organizations and may follow retention schedules.

03

Ask about commercial-vehicle experience

Ask a prospective firm how it identifies responsible companies, addresses overlapping insurance, and evaluates whether preservation requests are appropriate.
